Nancy Bennett
From an early age I was around the world of art. My aunt was an artist teaching me the appreciation of "coloring outside the lines." When I retired 5 years ago and moved back to Greenville I had my first art lesson with oils. It brought back grand memories of being in my aunt's studio with the smell of linseed oil. AND, I am working on painting outside the lines!
I graduated from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Interior Design. For 40 years I had the opportunity to be around some of the most talented designers and technicians of color and texture. Colors bring me great joy. I love to see unexpected colors side by side that just make each other sing!
My goal is to make people happy with a work of art. In 1978 I bought my first piece of art -- I still have it and love it! Everyone sees art differently. What I like may not be what you like which makes art so wonderful. I can remember going to galleries and thinking, "I could do that." Well, I am now able to say "hold on, not so fast, not necessarily so!" Painting is hard work, yet so rewarding!
Now circling back to my Aunt Mary Ellen Suitt -- I regret that she is not here to mentor me in the world of art, but the great thing is, from above she knows I am now in the game. I am also lucky to have other artists surrounding me with encouragement. Every time I pick up the paintbrush, I think that I am blessed to have this opportunity.
