Chris Hartwick is a founding member of the Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville.
He grew up in Illinois and came to South Carolina for higher education. He received a bachelor of science degree in graphic design from Bob Jones University. The University hired him immediately upon graduating to be a cel painter in the animation department. After a few years, Chris was transferred to the homeschool department where he worked as an animator and artist/graphic designer. Eventually his boss asked him to step into advertising design. Now, he works as a graphic designer for the University’s marketing department.
Chris’ art ability is unique in the fact that he uses his feet and mouth. Chris was born with a birth defect (Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita) which contracted the muscles in his arms rendering them not very useful. He uses his mouth and feet to complete everyday activities. Chris puts the mouse on the floor and controls it with his foot for computer needs while using the knuckle of his left hand to slide across the keyboard to type. Placing a pen or brush between his teeth allows Chris to draw and paint with ease. He is very linear in style. He works with acrylic, watercolor, ball point pen and digital design.
When not being artsy, Chris enjoys cooking (yes, it is very tasty), reading, swimming and playing with Lego.
